Gratitude

I love my little girls. Today, when I watched them walk up the stairs holding hands, both soft and pink in matching sleepers, I could scarcely breathe, I was so overcome by the blessing of them.

Then later, hiking the hills of Hoffmaster, husband at my side, the two of them tucked in the stroller in their blue jackets, a fleecy blanket over their laps, I wanted to sink to my knees in thanksgiving. For the sunshine, for the fallen leaves, for the moments of God's incredible goodness to me.

It is pathetically easy to forget the blessings of an ordinary day of oatmeal and blond curls in ponytails and games of Memory on the living room carpet. But today, at least, I have made note and remembered.

Okay, I don't want to be downer here, but be sure and file away this moment. You'll need it whenever they turn 14. And then for the next 10 years after that.
