Chosen

Tis not that I did choose Thee,
For Lord, that could not be;
This heart would still refuse Thee,
Hadst Thou not chosen me...
My heart owns none before Thee,
For Thy rich grace I thirst;
This knowing, if I love thee,
Thou must have loved me first.

Thanks for this. I cannot read the words without singing them. I am so thankful for old hymns! We, like you, sang them to our children from birth on (actually, they were subjected to our mediocre singing voices from conception on), which allowed them the opportunity to join in lustily with the congregation long before they could read. I have not sung this hymn for a long time, but it comes back like I sang it yesterday! What a treasure.
